It was so amazing breaking a board. Hope you enjoy this movie

My Reflection 2012

I am a year 6 student at Tamaki Primary and I have just completed my second year with my netbook. I’ve enjoyed learning, Creating and sharing things with my friends and this is my 2012 reflection.

The positives that I’ve experienced during this year including the new short cuts we have learnt E.G:
ctrl T- To make a new tab
ctrl R- Refresh your page
ctrl W- exit your tab.
I have also learnt about new websites that I’ve found on my netbook.

Some negatives that have occured during 2012 were kids playing games during learning time and kids not using their netbooks in a proper way. Also people were not taking risks and didn’t believe in themselves.

It was really interesting this year because we made movies in our groups which was cool. Another thing that was interesting that happened this year was we went to a manaiakalani film festival to go and watch our own movies that we made.

It's green!

Intro

What is an ozone layer? An ozone layer is like skin but different. It is a layer that protects the earth from the suns light. If the earth isn’t protected from the ozone layer. What will happen? The suns light will cause you to have skin cancer.

Information: 1

Did you know that greenhouse gasses are occurring right now. The greenhouses create a gas which is a dangerous cause to the earth’s ozone layer and lets the sun’s uv rays into the earth’s atmosphere .

Information: 2

But did you know that the suns rays are getting through a hole in the earths ozone layer.   The suns rays are really harmful to human’s like causing them to be blind and skin cancer.

Ending.

Saving the atmosphere and the ozone layer is easy all you have to do is stop GREENHOUSE! gasses and littering.

Atheletics Hyperbole Poem.

Athletics Day Poem!

Welcome to the T.P.S athletics day.

Feet are covered with millions of specks of speed.
Shotputs are thrown with the strength of a thousand men.
The race track is longer than a train.
Children pile their shoes mountain height.
Discus are plates that get thrown around from children.

My persuasive writing- "It is good to save energy".

Save energy! What will YOU do?

The world is changing into a different place. Is it going to end? The world? Is it us or mother nature?

Do you go to school or work in your private transport appliance? Do you like to watch T.V all day? Do you like to play on your computer all day? Do you leave your main power points on when not used? These questions could go on FOREVER. `In your everyday life. Do you wonder about what do and the effect it makes? You may say “YES”.  But do you actually SAVE energy? Now a days people just can’t save energy. Why? they are TOO LAZY to do it. We have become so reliable on the technology we use.  This may be the terrifying truth for almost everyone. But people around the world don’t notice how much energy they are wasting.

As you may already know. There is huge problems around the world made by YOU. Don’t you feel just at least a little guilty for what you have done? Already people around the world have no idea what they are doing! YOU are producing global warming, climate change and pollution! You should feel more guilty because these problems can END THE WORLD.

Global warming: Global warming is when there is too much CO2 in the air. Did you know that there is so much CO2 in the air that there is climate change? This is  when the weather gets hotter and in antarctica the enormous blocks of ice are melting rapidly. This affects thousands of creatures including YOU. Penguins are becoming homeless, polar bears are traveling further distances to find food, animals starving to death. Even in the islands! When ice melts the water level increases and are taking over the islands! There are less land there to live on. There are countless problems and more to come just because of you.

As a famous quote  ‘little things can do big things.’ YES this is true. We  all are doing little things like driving a car instead of riding a bike. What can we do to  encourage people to ride bikes more often and turn off lights when not used and so on. Can you please help us, the world. They are in your hands. What will you do?

Data Handling.

Today me and Lydia played a game called data handing. We had to throw the dice 30 times and write down how many we got to 1-6. It had to equal up to 30 which was challenging for me . We made a bar graph on the same information we got from the tally chart

My Personal Robot.

My robot is yellow and red with blue sunglasses. It has a fluffy duster at the top of it's head. His hands turn into guns, that defend him. His right arm has a G.P.S that show we his destination is. Water shoots out of his water slot, providing water to drink. Food falls out from the food slot onto your plate. His legs turn and twist as they turn in to rockets.

The End!

Vector Energy

Tukutuku Design

Description:

The main theme of this pattern is how we affect the world. The red colour on top represents you and me, the green represents the environment, the blue represents the sea and what lies within and lastly the orange which represents land creatures. These are all in the world. But the stairs on bottom, represent the way to peace and care on earth but some of us are going down and some are going up, which means that some people just can’t follow peace and care for the environment and some people do. The environment, land creatures and marine creatures inside the stairs are all trapped because we trapped the world. What will happen if the stairs get weaker and weaker then it falls. What will happen to our world?

Energy Vlog

Today me and Lydia were wondering about our new topic energy.

My Narrative T4W1

As I took one step onto the tightrope. My legs started wobbling. I tried to stop it, but it was just too strong. I started walking closer and closer to the end of the tightrope. I told myself “Don't look down”. I couldn’t help it so I had to look down. “Man wasn’t I high in the sky”. I said to myself. I looked over to the end,I wasn’t far. I just needed to walk a couple more steps to the end. I took one step, then I took another. “Wooaahh!”. I said worried. “Feww, that was close”. I took two more steps.

“Ahhh!” I screamed. I had fallen. But luckily I was still holding onto the string. “Oh no”. I began to panic. “Please somebody HELP!”. My hands started slipping. I shouted out one more time. “HELP!” no-one could hear me. I said it one more time, this time in a louder voice. “HHEELLPP!”
I heard a voice. I looked over and saw a man. This man had long brown dreads. Black and white sunglasses and a yellow t-shirt and black jeans on. “Hold on” he said. He slowly started walking towards me.

Once he was there. He took one of my hands and pulled. We were up. The tightrope started wobbling. The wobbling was so strong we both fell off the rope. We fell deeper and deeper into the hole. It got darker and darker as we sunk down and down. You couldn’t see anything. As we hit the bottom. I stood up and looked to my left. I saw a light in the distance. We ran towards the light. It got brighter and brighter as we ran towards it. My eyes felt like they were ready to melt.

We walked through the hole in the wall. It was amazing. We were looking out at the outside where we were about 20 minutes ago.
I looked at him and he looked at me. We both had smiles on our faces.

Team building Game Reflection!

Team Building Game!!!

Today I learnt about team building with my class. We had to go in a circle with our teams that we were in and cross our arms and connect our hands with the person across from us.
The hardest part of team building was moving around and figuring out which way to go and trying to untangle ourselves. The strategy that we used in team building was that we let our team leader (Mavis) direct us which way to go. What I learnt from this game was that it didn't mater who one it was about encouraging others to try and untangle themselves.

My Chunky Challenge T3W10

Me and Aeshia's Persuasive Writing.

Arbor Day!

We at Tamaki Primary think that cutting down our trees are bad,we should be thinking better for our future because if we cut down our tree’s more than how will we breath,we should think of electronics that are better for our future like for example our netbooks we use them and so on that means that we aren’t wasting our trees.
Without trees how would we have oxygen and inhale carbon-dixon.

Saving the trees, I think is good and it means that we are being conversational.
If we save our tree’s,we can believe in the future generations in life.
Some europeans would cut down New Zealand’s native trees, New Zealand’s native tree’s mean a lot to us but every time you people have to cut them down.

I think saving tree’s is a better thing as well because what is better than paper. Also I think that people should stop cutting trees down because in the past there was more than 100 Native forests around. But now there is only a few native trees in New Zealand. I mean why do people have to cut down Native trees.

Second reason: I think that people should stop cutting trees down because the more trees they cut down the less native trees we have in New Zealand.

Bad Points-
I think it was bad for the europeans to wreck our land to build their farms and such other businesses.
It was bad that the europeans would just cut down New Zealand’s natives trees unannounced because it makes a nuisance for the council when cutting down the trees.

Questions:
1.Why do you think we should have Arbor day?
2. Do you think that Arbor day is a great thing to celebrate?
3.What is Arbor day mainly about?

Description about Koro!

The Helpful Caretaker of T.P.S!

Koro’s face is loving and caring and is decorated with a stunning smile. His boots slam onto the ground as he walks around picking up rubbish. You can hear the leaves rustling as they hit the pile of rustling leaves.

His legs are strong, as they walk around picking up food scraps. Koro’s grey old hair blows in the wind as he bends up and down. He wears his funky sunglasses so that the sun doesn’t get in his eyes.

Koro’s caring words always give us courage to keep moving forward. Koro is like a father to us even though he is not.He says things like “Ka pai,” and “Good work.” And encourages us in everything we do or try.

With everything in the world he is like a proactive machine zooming through and finishing all his jobs in time without a fuss. Ever since he’s been at our school, he has always loved our Kapa Haka singing. Without him our school would be a dump. We all love him and care for him like he is our own precious hardworking godfather. He is such a reliable person to know. Everything he hates like picking up rubbish, cleaning the toilets and stuff he always does it. His face lights up whenever he shows us his gorgeous smile.

Koro is a man who cares about others. Everynight and everyday I think about Koro and I think to myself “What a wonderful and helpful man he is.” Even though he is a wise man his treasure of life will be treasured in our school forever.

My Popplet on Sustainability

Chasity's Observation Report

This term in week 4 we started on our science investigation projects about plants. I involved myself in the kumara group, we call ourselves the K.S.I (kumara science investigators). So far our small kumara has sprouted a root. But unfortunately the big kumara is still taking its time.

In week 4 we gathered all the equipment we needed for our kumara experiment. My group gathered two cups, some bamboo sticks   , two kumara and water. We then put the two kumara into cups, then we poked some bamboo sticks into the kumara, After that we put water into the two cups and put them both underneath the sun.

In two days we observed our two kumara's. My group had noticed that there were no changes to our two kumara. But then three weeks later we all walked into class and gazed at our kumara .We saw that the small kumara had sprouted a root. But unfortunately the big kumara just had fur on it.

This term I have learnt that the small kumara grew roots and fur. But the big kumara only grew fur but is  taking time growing.

My Pohutukawa Presentation!

Here is my Pohutukawa presentation of all the new facts I have learnt about for the past couple of days. I hope you enjoy!

Friday 17 August 2012

Basic Facts Progress.

Here is my basic facts progress spread sheet. Today I got 45 out of 100 which is pretty good but I'm trying to get 100 out of 100.

The Pohutukawa Lengend

There lived a powerful and mysterious man Michael who travelled around places looking for plants. At last on an island he was walking along the beach and finally there it was a pohutukawa tree. Michael stopped and couldn’t believe his eyes. “Is it really” Is it really true” he said in a shouty and exciting voice. “I’ve always wanted a pohutukawa tree”.

So he quickly got a saw from out of his boat and was going to cut the tree down when a grumpy old man popped out of nowhere and shouted out in a creepy old voice “Hey you! Leave that precious tree alone before I get over there and get that saw of yours and break it with my two bare hands”.The grouched. Then in a blink of an eye Michael was off running towards the forest. As he was running Michael could hear the old man from way back at the other end of the forest shouting out “You can run but you can’t hide”. Then as it got quieter and michael could only hear the birds chirping their wonderful harmonies. He stopped and had a rest. Then when he turned around to look at the other wonderful trees that were surrounding him. He didn’t see that the old man was standing right in front of him. “Now here we are in this very forest”. the old man said. “Okay now tell me back there why did you want to cut down my tree. hmmm.

“I never knew that was your tree though” michael spoke. “I’ve just always wanted a pohutukawa at the back of my backyard. “Thats are reasonable reason. said the old man touched. Then when they got back to Michael's boat. Michael said a quick bye and got into his boat. As he was about to zoom off the old man shouted “WAIT!” . “Here, have some pohutukawa seeds”. “Woah where did you get these from”. “Oh just be quiet and just get out of here before I kick you all the way to africa”. “Okay,Okay I’m going now, so aren’t you going to say something”. “NO” the old man shouted. Then as michael left he could hear the old man shouting “Thank you for not cutting down my tree I really appreciate that”. “Yeah thats right”. Michael said to himself happily.

My Compost Narrative

The Journey of Chizu the apple!

Hanging from an apple tree in the sun. A little boy gently picked me off my branch and took one bite of me. I could feel his teeth digging into my juice. As he took bites and bites of me I could already feel my life fading away. As he finished me, he threw me in a bin. I fell deeper and deeper into the bin. I could hear my echo as I was shouting “AHH!”.Then I heard a SLAM! I hit the ground. I felt myself sinking into a pile of compost. My body felt cold I thought I was dying but... I wasn’t. I lifted my myself from off the pile of compost. Suddenly.... from the tip of my eye I spotted a centipede gazing at me with a funny look on his face. I screamed “AHHH! please don’t eat me”. The centipede let out a big ‘BURR PPP!”. He laughed and laughed. I joined in with him ‘ Hahaha...” So what are we laughing about again”. I couldn’t get over that he was a vegetarian and not an apple eater.

As the sun went down and the moon rose into the sky. I almost fell asleep when... “Ow! Chizu!” .The centipede woke me up. “huh, oh its you centipede”. I said. “What do you want?” The centipede never answered. I looked up and saw two worms dragging him by his arms. I ran as quickly as I could. But they got away. “NOOOOO!” I shouted. “Why wasn’t I a great friend to centipede”. I said sadly. Then I started to cry. Tears came running out as I cried and cried. It was like My eyes were two waterfalls. I stopped and looked out in the area where the two worms took centipede. I ran and ran until I got to the end. I found centipede lying in the middle of the compost bin unconscious. Centipede woke up. “Are you alright centipede?” I asked. The centipede answered”Yeah i’m alright but you should really look behind you”. I felt slime sliding down my core. I turned around and saw the two worms. They had no eyes but they could sure sense your smell. “HELP!” I yelled.

The centipede couldn’t do anything. I quickly died and never lived through the fight. The worms ate me. The centipede cried all through his sleep until it was morning. I could see him everywhere while I was in heaven. I visited him every night and would talk to him. He would think it was weird talking to a ghost but he thought”Well at least I’m talking to her as she is a ghost.” The centipede would talk about how much he missed me. And now today he is still talking to me while we are old and he is still alive.

Day 3 Observation

Today I observe that the big kumara and the small kumara have grown fur at the bottom of it.

My Future Questions:
1. What does fur do to the kumara?
2. What happened if the big kumara was planed in the ground will it grow or will it die?
3. How does the fur effect of the fur do?

Monday 13 August 2012

Day One Observation

I observed that the small kumara has sprouted and that the big kumara didn’t grow any roots because over the weekend the bowl that the big kumara was in, had a hole in it, so the water kept on leaking out of it. Now I am wondering

1.What would happen if you planted the same sized plant in a different type of soil?
2. Does it really matter about the size of the kumara?
3.What would happen if you didn't put your plant in the sun and put it under a lamp instead?

4. Do you wonder if kumara like to be grown under ground?
5. Do different plants have different time limits in soil?

Friday 10 August 2012

My Science Investigation

Today we started our scientific experiments on plants.  I hypothesise that the small kumara is going to grow roots faster than the big kumara because I think it is still growing.

My Mangere Mountain Recount Story

It was Tuesday the  23rd of July, we were getting ready to get on the bus to Mangere Mountain. When we got there I thought “Oh...is this it?” But as we were getting closer, I could see the beautiful view of Mangere mountain and all the different kinds of gardens.
It was time to head inside, so I quickly put my bag down in a corner then went to go sit next to my brother Cypress.

Next we went outside to have a look at the different medicines. We had to go in a group of three people. I went with Salome and Haina. When Moana told us to find the medicine she said to find. Our group ran quickly to find it.  When we found our plant we wrote the meaning down and wrote what it was used for. Then Moana said to tell them what your medicines were for. Our group was first. When we were finished with that rotation, we went to the next rotation. That one was the TOOL MAKING!

It was fun! First we rubbed the river rock against the sandstone, then we plaited a piece of flax which sam got to keep (not fair) and then finally we went to scrape all the fibre off of the ko. When we finished that I didn’t want to leave but I had to. We had to go to the Mara Kai (food garden) some people got a ko to use to dig up all the hard soil. Then they would had to give the next person a turn.

After all the hard work we had done, we then got a chance to walk up the mountain. It was pretty tiring once you were walking up the stairs. Once we were all up on the mountain, we were all puffed out. When it was time to go we all ran down the mountain having fun. When we were all on the bus I fell asleep while all the other kids were laughing and shouting at each other.  That was such an exc day!

The Big Question

Monday 23 July 2012

Pakuranga Night Markets Recount

P1:
It was covered with darkness as we left the house to drive to Pakuranga night markets.  As we got out of the van there were people crowding around something.
When we got closer I knew why they were crowding around because my cousin Darcey was singing with his mates. I felt proud of him because everybody was watching him and singing along together. For awhile it started to get hot and I started to sweat. I asked my aunty if I could get  me and my cousin an Ice-cream to cool us down she said to get her one as well because she was hot too. I chose the Ice-creams they looked yum.

P2:
As I took one bite of my ice-cream I could already feel the coolness flowing through my body. I saw a waffle stand,I asked my aunty  if we could  each have a waffle. My aunty said that she would come with me as we were walking I could see this cute baby with his mum dancing to the music they both looked cute together. I took a big bite of my waffle YUCK! It tasted like a cone. When we left I said to myself “I’m never eating waffles again.”

P3:
The next day my aunty heated up the food that we got from the night markets. It was food that I had never tasted before. It looked delicious. So I got a spoon and a plate and took a little bit out of the container. I had a little nibble “hmmm this is nice” I said.

P4:
I had many different experiences  while my mum was away, like going out at night, meeting different people, coming to know them and the new food that I ate.

My Reading Goals for Term3

My Reading Goals for Term 3 are:
  • Make use of prior knowledge by using the things I already know, making connections and asking myself “What do I already know about this topic?”

  • Explore the author’s purpose and question intent by asking “Why did the author write this book?”

Movie Tips

Movie Making Evaluation

I think that a range of camera angles is the most important element to movie making because if you don’t use a variety of camera angles your movie won’t be that fascinating.

I put good actors first and tripod second because if you want your movie to be good you have to have good actors because good actors give your movie more entertainment. And if you have a tripod for camera your movie will be still and not shaky.

I think the least important element is a flash camera because who cares if you’ve got an ugly camera. You don’t really need a flash camera all you are doing is filming.

Other important elements that aren’t included here are.

  • Time
  • Motion
  • Composition
  • sequence
My biggest light bulb moment while learning about movie magic was when we were learning about different camera angles and how they help us to make our movie more interesting.

Speeches!

Room 8 have been studying Movie Magic. Part of making movies, is speaking clearly. We put this into practice by planning, crafting, practicing and presenting speeches. The topics we chose, were topics that would influence the thinking of others. We hope you enjoy!

Speech Reflection

How did you feel about presenting your speech to the class?
At first I felt nervous then when it came to the end for the feed forward part I felt better because my class gave me and my partner good comments about our speech.

What was the hardest part about preparing a speech?
The hardest part about presenting my speech was when I had to talk clear and loudly so that the audience could hear what I was saying to them.
What did you enjoy most about speeches?
The part I enjoyed about speeches was when me and my partner co-operated to finish our wonderful speech.
How could you improve your speech making next time?
I could practise my speech in front of the mirror at home so that I can use more hand gestures.
Shade in the squares to give your speech a rating out of TEN:
